Location of the Lodge, the Lake, the River and the Many Fishing Opportunities

THE LOCATION OF THE LODGE

The strategic location of Gods River Lodge makes this the perfect location for the trip of a lifetime. It is recognized as one of the last virgin habitats for wildlife such as bald eagles, black bears, moose, caribou, mink, martin, fox, and timber wolves. This region is world renowned for its trophy fishing in 5 species. Gods River Lodge is the perfect destination for fun, relaxation and world class fishing.

The Lodge is ideally located at the mouth of Gods River and Gods Lake making it convenient for fishing either the river or the lake. This is particularly important on bad weather days. Our docks are on the river….just jump in your boat and head downriver….fish for Brookies or in the River Bays for Northern…. you might even catch some walleye!

THE LAKE

Gods Lake is over 65 miles long and 20 miles wide, covering over 1300 square miles of pristine wilderness. It is fed by over 40 rivers and streams, but has only one outlet; God’s River. The strategic location of God’s River Lodge, at the mouth of the lake and river, makes this the perfect location for the fishing trip of a lifetime.

This beautiful lake with its many islands, shoals, bays and reefs make it the perfect structure for the following species of fish. Many Master Angler Awards are issued every year by the Manitoba Government for qualifying fish. You will be asked to fill out a card indicating your catch, size, etc. and the Lodge forwards it to travel Manitoba who will issue various awards.

THREE MAIN SPECIES OF FISH ARE AVAILABLE IN THE LAKE

Northern, Lake Trout and Walleye can be found in quantities and great quality that will impress the most astute fisherman.

Northern PikeThe Monster of the North, the Northern Pike, is found lurking in most bays. These giants can range up to 48 inches with larger ones; I am sure, waiting to be discovered. When you hook into one of these creatures prepare for a battle. Northern Pike in the 6 to 24 lb. range are found in plentiful numbers, it is not uncommon to have caught and released 50 or more by noon. Keep some for shore lunch, our cold waters produce a fierce nature in these Northerns that make any lunch break a welcome treat. Guides remove the backbones so you will experience no bones when consuming these fish. They are also found in bays down river.

Lake Trout The diverse structure of Gods Lake, with its many reefs and sharp drop offs and holes of several hundred feet, provides the ideal habitat for Lunker Lake Trout. Trolling in June and Mid-September has produced some 40+lbs. to depths of 8-15 ft. down. Later on in the summer (July & August), as the lake trout follow the cooler waters down to anywhere from 80-200 ft., jigging from the bottom with 1 1/2 oz jig heads has produced tremendous results.

WalleyeIt all starts in late May or early June. Once the ice has melted on Gods Lake, Walleye is the word. You can catch trophy Walleye in numbers so plentiful you will wonder where they come from! Averaging in size from 3-7 lbs (23"-30") with larger ones waiting to be discovered. As the water warms up in the summer months, the Walleye venture throughout the main lake and can be found in plentiful bounty. If mind blowing Walleye fishing is your mark, the Gods River Lodge will deliver.

THE RIVER

Gods River carries the water from Gods Lake over 250 rugged, untamed miles north to Hudson’s Bay. This is the same untouched route through the wilderness that the Hudson’s Bay Fur Traders traveled hundreds of years ago. There are many white water areas to the river which the guides have learned to skillfully navigate.

Three main species of fish also can be found in this beautiful river, the main by far and the most sought after is the magnificent Brook Trout. Catch one of these beauties in the fast white water areas and you will indeed have your hands full. Many Master Angler Brookies are caught here every year. Approximately 92% of all Brook Trout caught in Manitoba are from this mighty river.
